Digital Outreach

With the Census being able to be completed online for the first time, it’s critical that any plan must have a dedicated digital outreach component. This has become even more important as we find ourselves in the midst of a public health crisis that requires us to social distance, which negatively impacts parts of our original Census plan. To address these challenges, we are working to emphasize the idea that “It’s never been easier to complete the Census on your own — online, over the phone, or by mail,” while making sure we are still conveying the importance of the Census with the same framing we had originally planned for.

To this end, we are going to increase our digital efforts, starting with a coordinated national social media campaign for Census Day on April 1st. By having out cohort push out organized information about the Census, we are hoping to motivate our communities to complete the Census online. We will also be branding the month of April as “Census Month,” as we continue to promote Census messaging and continually encourage people to complete their Census online.

Beyond coordinating on social media, the NUIFC and our partners are exploring other digital outreach strategies, such as media challenges, phone and text message banking, giveaways, video, live broadcasts, and much more. We will also be promoting our Census artwork series, which includes social media graphics that can be found below.

The NUIFC is committed to reclaiming our power, reclaiming our voice by working to ensure that all Indians are counted in the 2020 Census. We will be updating this space with more information as we continue to develop and grow our digital outreach strategy.
