THE NUIFC RELEASES INAUGURAL ANNUAL REPORT TO CELEBRATE HISTORIC YEAR

Celebrating and Reflecting on the NUIFC’s 2020-2021 Successes and Growth

Overview

Our 2020/2021 Annual Report is a significant milestone of the National Urban Indian Family Coalition (NUIFC) as we close in on 19 years of working to elevate and unite a national voice for urban American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/Ans) across Indian Country. The past two years have been historic and transformational for the NUIFC and our member organizations, providing critical service in urban Native communities. Our annual report provides our stakeholders, supporters, and funders with a breakdown of our work, impact, and the people and organizations that made it all possible.

Since the NUIFC was founded in 2003, our coalition has grown significantly to include 55 urban Indian nonprofits in 37 cities across 24 states. Our growth reflects the fact that over 70% of all AI/ANs live in urban areas. The urban communities represented in our membership alone represent over 30% of the entire American Indian and Alaska Native population.

Some NUIFC highlights over the past two years:

The NUIFC’s investment in strengthening relationships, building trust, and focusing resources in our membership network has had a transformational impact on building electoral power and political influence for urban Native people. While there is much work ahead of us, we believe our collective efforts will continue to drive a new narrative with new voices that will define the solutions to improve the quality of life for all our communities around the country.

Every city our members had a presence in shattered their voter turnout records! When the Census Bureau published its results, those same cities saw a more accurate count in their American Indian/Alaska Native population, a testament to their work in the face of unprecedented challenges. We recorded more than 25 million engagements through social media and connected with hundreds of thousands of community members through COVID-19 safe in-person civic engagement events.

Our annual report includes a financial operations report, which demonstrates the NUIFC’s continued commitment to ensuring that our resources and funding are invested and focused on our members and their success.

We recognize and appreciate all of our amazing friends, funders, partners, and most importantly, our members around the country who make all this possible.
